The 29th annual Coney Island Mermaid Parade took place on June 18th and we arrived three hours before the start to take some photos in the staging area. Some 100 other photographers had the same idea and the place turned into a paparazzi mob scene, but everyone was in a great mood even with the scortching sun that, luckily, gave way to some much needed clouds. We met up with some of our flickr-friends and fellow ForTheLoveofBrooklyn contributors as well as its creator, Jill. We were all very excited by the array of characters roaming the streets, as well as the camera porn catching our eyes.Since we had already spent a few hours shooting in the staging area, we decided to forego the frenzy of the parade side-line and headed for the boardwalk for some fast food and cold brews.
This was our second year attending the parade as onlookers, but maybe next year we can get a group of photographers together to dress up so we can shoot the parade from within the route.
